Tammy Duckworth

Combat Amputee: Duckworth lost both legs and partial use of one arm when her Army Black Hawk helicopter was shot down by RPG fire in Iraq on November 12, 2004 — making her one of the first female double amputees from the Iraq War.

First Senator to Give Birth: Duckworth became the first sitting U.S. Senator to give birth while in office in April 2018, and then the first Senator to bring her baby onto the Senate floor.

Combat Pilot: Before losing her legs, Duckworth was an Army Black Hawk helicopter pilot who served in the Illinois Army National Guard and flew combat missions in Iraq.
