Background

Virginia Ann Foxx (born June 29, 1943 in New York City) has represented North Carolina's 5th Congressional District since 2005. She grew up in North Carolina and was the first in her family to graduate from high school or college, eventually earning a doctorate in education.

Before Congress, Foxx and her husband Tom operated a nursery and landscaping business and she served as president of Mayland Community College (1987–1994) and then in the North Carolina Senate (1994–2004). She is running for reelection in 2026.
