Rohit "Ro" Khanna (born September 13, 1976) has represented California's 17th Congressional District since 2017 after defeating eight-term incumbent Mike Honda. A Democrat and self-described "progressive capitalist," Khanna was born in Philadelphia to Indian immigrant parents.
He holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Chicago and a J.D. from Yale, and previously served as Deputy Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of Commerce under Obama. Before Congress, he lectured in economics at Stanford University.
Khanna is running for reelection in 2026 and faces a challenger partly motivated by the stock trading controversy.
