John Henry Hoeven III (born March 13, 1957) has served as North Dakota's senior U.S. Senator since 2011. Before that, he served as the state's 31st governor from 2000 to 2010 β for a decade, the most popular governor in America with an 87% approval rating.
He holds a B.A. from Dartmouth (1979) and an MBA from Northwestern (1981). Prior to politics, Hoeven was president and CEO of the Bank of North Dakota and held ownership stakes in First Western Bank & Trust. He was reelected to the Senate in 2022 and his current term runs through 2029.
